Need to get fit

Just realised how unfit we have become over the winter!

Got up late, but the sun was shining and with a weather forecast of colder stuff next week, we went to cut up a pallet and some rotten field fence posts to supplement the dwindling log pile. That was OK as we have new electric saw that slices through scrap wood like butter so it was just carrying the boxes down to the house that was a bit of a stretch.

Had baked potatoes for lunch and a bit of Christmas cake, sun still shining so went to work this off by winding up the hoses in the veg garden and putting them away.  Feeling OK and enjoying the clear sunny day, went on to get some veg - leeks, swede, sprouts and then husband came to dig up some parsnips.  He got carried away and also dug up two rows of celery that had gone to seed as well.  By then it was past 3 o'clock and I persuaded him to STOP.

We need at least an hour with our books before we felt able to get on with something else.  In the summer a day like this would have been normal and we would have much more - we are going to have to get fitter before the spring!

  1. We have entered log splitting season and I had forgotten just how physical it is. I have mastered the art of belting hell out of a log with an axe and heavy hammer after watching an American man split logs. I am determined to lose a few pounds by Easter and this will certainly help

    1. Many years ago i had a horrible job and the only way I survived was coming home every night and beating hell out of a pile of logs! I got quite good at it!

  2. I normally feel it in my bottom and legs the following day, which shows you are using muscles while gardening you don't use other times. Gardening is a lovely way of keeping fit though. I think we are all fitter in the summer than in the winter.

    1. Roll on summer. It feels a long way off today as it has got a lot colder here.
