Failed swedes


Not the nation - the veg!!  Flea beetles got the seedlings and due to the cold/hot/dry/wet changeable conditions they never got going. We are just going to pull them out they are not doing anything.



And what is this flower?  It popped up in the flower bed from some odd bulbs uncovered under a hedge.  It had upright iris-like leaved in a fan shape and then a yellow upright flower emerged. Even my horticultural trained husband is puzzled.

  1. Dam I know the plant have some here in my garden, its not from a bulb it grows similar to red hot pokers from a tuberous root, it forms clumps of plants and can re-seed. its going to bug now until I remember the name

  3. Its a bit of a pain when a crop fails. Not sure I'm going to get any runner beans this year. You lost one thing but gained another.

    1. Did your flowers set? Not all ours did and the crop is a lot less.

    1. We are having a good think about soil condition, cleanliness, fertilizer over the winter. Don't want to spray but need to get on top of some of this year's issues!
