New Year budget targets

My husband was watching something on TV where a lady had set herself 50 things to do in the following year - I am going to draw up a list!

Meanwhile the accounts have been completed for the Xmas spending and I have run a report on the "Groceries". This is all food, cleaning products, toiletries, over the counter medicines and day to day stationary for us two and with visitors for about 30 extra "person"days in the year.  The total 1st Jan to 31 Dec 2015 is £3562.

My only "resolve" for 2016 is to reduce this to below £3000 for the year.   This is £8.52 per day average.  I shall be trolling the frugal sites to see how I can achieve this but maintaining our healthy, cooking from scratch, minimum processed food, with home grown veg.

My only restriction is  keeping travel to shop to a minimum in time and costs.  Plus no shopping around various places as that involves car use for us.

So I think this is going to be about planning, meal stretching, no waste!

Now to start my 50 things to do in 2016.

What would your 50 list for 2016 contain?

  1. I too am planning a really frugal year. I shall cut to the bone my spending and will only buy something if I really need it. It will be interesting to see how much I spend this year...... oh and a very Happy New Year. x

    1. Happy new Year. My most frugal spending was clothes/shoes this year. Just £120 between the two of us.

  2. Like yourself I would like to reduce spending while keeping a healthy lifestyle. I want to grow more fruit this year and be a successful brassica grower! Happy New Trish and hubby.

    1. Happy New Year. We have started some seeds this week - sprouting brocc and cauli. Just a few to try and get a better spread over the year. Also some antirhimums for the garden - much cheaper than bedding plants.

  5. I've just returned to your blog after reading this post a few minutes ago because you've just posted a comment on mine. Two bloggers reading each other's blogs at virtually the same time. How good is that!. I'm off to look up 50 things to do in a year to see if it rocks my boat!

    1. Thanks. I think there is a lot of saving in the cleaning products - I am sure Wilko is cheaper?
