Shoes

Apparently women are suppose to be shoe mad.  Not me. When I said I was going to buy some summer sandals my husband went "more shoes?"  Here is my current collection.

The new hiking sandals for this summer.  Last pair I had like this lasted about 3 years. Coast £19.99.

These are my worn out shoes for use around the house and garden. The black ones (cost £12) are a dreadful fit but handy on wet days to slip on to go to the dustbin! The trainers have lasted 2 years just about, with heavy winter use, cost £25 and have been good for gardening. But as soon as it is warm they are HOT and make my feet blister. Weird.  The blue cotton/denim were very comfortable all last summer but the structure of plastic in the heels has collapsed. Cost £7.
MY brown boots were a charity shop purchase for £8 two years ago and have been worn a lot and scrub nice after I have splashed up the muddy lane from the bus stop. They are Clarkes.  My hiking boots cost about £80, 5 years ago and are good for serious winter walking.
No other fancy shoes needed now I am not an office person and I had got rid or sent some to charity shops.  Just kept this expensive pair from the last wedding 5 years ago cost about £60 and will have to match what ever I wear for formal occasions now. Unfortunately,  I seem to have forgotten how to walk in them and the other night it felt really weird to be in heels!  Only things I own is a pair of new wellies - £15.  They don't get a lot of wear - if its that wet I try to stay indoors.

So,  dear husband, in a rough calculation, my shoes/boots over the last few years has cost about £5 per month!  Mind you, in the interests of frugality that does seem quite a lot of money?  If we were on a tighter budget that might well be a problem. I shall reflect on that and check that I am taking care of the expensive ones and STOP wasting money on cheap and useless shoes!

  1. I can't wear heals these days, like you I don't work in an office any more. I have loads more pairs than you, which has challenged me to not buying any footwear this year. Doing well so far.

    1. Great buy! I often see virtually new boots in charity shops - why pay all that money to give them away? Still good for us!

  3. I can't wear heels either as I walk with a cane and since I've always had "issues" with my feet I've never been able to be a shoe person.
I own 3 pair of ballet flats - but good leather ones bought from Hotter Shoes which came in the wide width that I need and fit perfectly even though I ordered them online - 2 identical pair in black and 1 in a bright red (I couldn't resist). I have two pair of good walking shoes from Ecco and for the summer I have 2 pair of Converse light weight sneakers and 1 pair of flip flops. But - these are very expensive flip flops bought through my Physiotherapy Office and have built in arch support and are very comfortable for walking. And because I live in Canada, I have some heavy duty Winter boots. I would like a pair of rain boots - wellies and a new pair of dressy lace up shoes (an Oxford style) for the Fall. For walking shoes I need laced shoes rather than slip ons. I pay as much as I can afford and will save for a good pair rather than cheap ones (but wait for sales/discounts).
It's not that I wouldn't love a closet full of beautiful shoes but they just don't fit me. I always said that if I ever win the lottery my one big indulgence would be to have my shoes custom made!
PS - love your grey heels!

  4. I am a shoe holic. I love shoes but I only buy them on offer now. I never pay full price. I waited for a pair of gabor boots to be reduced from £300 to £200 in the sale once. Never again .
