Composting

The thing with our bit of east Anglia is one day its 2C all day and freezing (like today), then the next the wind comes from the south and its 12C all day till 4pm and very nice out there.

So we had 2 good days last weekend and took advantage of the mild weather and dry grass and emptied one of the compost bins.  Not great compost as we have far too much grass cuttings

The bin is moving to the far end of the veg bed for the next 2 years and this area will be re landscaped with a tree. Plant more trees - help with CO2 in the atmosphere! The soil next to the bin was turf we cut 4 years ago and put to break down and it is lovely stuff now.

And put it out on the first of the veg beds to finish breaking down in this current spell of frosty hard weather and be dug in during February.
I feel that we are quite a way on with the veg garden this year (compared to last when it was too wet all through January) and now it is split up by paths into smaller chunks it does not feel so daunting.

Not much snow here, a mere flurry, but a hard frost this morning that never really went off. Feel so sorry for the people in mid America today.

  1. Today has been fairly nice here as well, only -10 C instead of the -35 to -40 we had previously. Can't get used to the warmer weather though as by Sunday we will be colder once again.

    God bless.

  2. Our compost has been spread and a load of manure is waiting in the wings for a warmer day when it will be incorporated onto our small plot. The season has started.
