Craft Fair

We went over to Fakenham this Saturday in response to an advert for a "Makers Market" at the Parish Church.  We really expected to go into some side room but the stalls were set among the pews in the Nave.  It was a bit strange at first but as it filled up and people relaxed and chatted it did not seem so odd. Even the local policeman came in to warm up as the wind was very sharp outside for foot patrol!

There were 3 bag makers, 3 glass people and 3 woodturners plus about 10 others so there was a good range..
Really liked this ladies garden ornaments.

As always I think the glass stuff is lovely - especially the bright coloured stuff https://www.marymaryglass.co.uk/

Lots of the people there were offering day courses in painting, ceramics, glass, etc etc. Several had premises in Fakenham area for that.  The courses were around £60 for half a day and £110 for a day.

Had a good chat to one of the bag makers about using an industrial sewing machines.

We went on into the town centre but in the cold wind we could not find any exciting shops. After 7 charity shops seemed to be the only thing on offer we went for a walk along the river Wensum.

We went on the short walk and found not only the usual load of ducks waiting to be fed but a herd of feral chickens! They lived in the trees and bushes and just ran around the road and everywhere.  When people came to feed the ducks the chickens mugged them to get at the food!

We have put Fakenham on our list to revisit in warmer weather and do the longer river walk.

    1. We had heard about a flock of chickens running wild on a housing estate in Diss (not far away about 30 miles) but were very surprised to find another lot!

  2. They were talking about wild chickens recently on the radio. People are letting their chickens go when they don't want them and they are becoming a nuscience.

    1. If I had a house nearby I would certainly agree! This place was well away from houses but we did wonder if it flooded in the winter!

  3. What lovely colours on those chickens. I have never heard of feral chickens. I really don't think they would survive here on the prairies during the winter.

    God bless.

    1. There was one with the most gorgeous teal coloured side feathers! They survive because of the British obsession with going to parks etc and feeding the ducks!!
