Given up. Our duvet was about 10 years old, but not used consistently (swapped 2 around now and again and not used in hot weather at all), the blankets are 30 years plus, the patchwork quilt I made last year. I piled different combinations on the bed, but the old man I sleep with kept complaining, "I'm cold", "There's a draft", "I can't get comfortable..."
For heavens sake! Finally, on the way back from the library this week I purchased a kings size cheap 13.5 tog winter duvet and a cover. Total £27 out of my budget. A very nice man (not the husband) helped me carry the bundles up the steps from the River Ouse passenger ferry.
The husband slept like a log, as warm as a bug in a rug; there was no snoring and no complaining.
Well, some complaining; now I have to sort out the linen cupboard to put all the spare bits and pieces in. But I must be brave, some of it is past sell by date and must be re-purposed or recycled. No hoarding.
I'm very proud of you. And so your husband should be too.

Love our duvet and hate when we stay away and it’s sheets and blankets. We have had a selection of duvets over 47 years of marriage and were quite nouveau when we first had one. I usually make my own covers- recently we downsized to a king sized bed and out came the machine and six inches taken off each side (to preserve the fastenings) your cover is lovely.

ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a good idea = had to get up to cool off last night!
