Bird food

Staggered in from town yesterday lunch time with a bag of books and a bag of various bird foods. Husband gets up from settee to make me coffee and says "Wait".  "Check the bird feeder before you go out there with the meal worms and seed".

Why?

"There was a sparrow hawk sitting on the top 5 mins ago."

Err, what am I feeding?

  1. We didn't put any seed out last week because we had seen bear tracks in the snow and we didn't want to provide a temptation. I just did a walk all around the property and didn't find any more tracks, so we're going to risk putting out some seed again. This past fall a short term fine was put into effect in a town a little north from here for people that left their bird feeders out - they were having so much trouble with bears going after the seed!

    1. We have 3 pigeons so fat they can barely walk. I try to frighten them away if I see them under the feeder cleaning up

  3. That will keep the little one's away for a bit. I remember when we had the allotment a kestrel whooshed down and took a starling off, we hardly heard it it was so quiet. Luckily the starling managed to get free.

  4. We get quite a variety of birds in our new garden. We only got seagulls in our other house.

  5. I usually just throw seed into a small bowl on the deck. We only every get sparrows in the winter.

    God bless.
