Tea

I am exploring tea. I am trying to lose a stone this summer and my sugar bloods are a bit high. so I have decided to try (yet again) to cut sugar from beverages.  Considering 20 years ago I would have thought nothing of putting 2 teaspoons into a cup of coffee I think getting down to half a teaspoon is reasonable.  Can't stand artificial sweeteners and have read they are not good for you either.

Just can't get past PG tips without a bit more sugar so I am exploring other brands.  Started with Yorkshire as my sons drink this and there is half a caddy in the cupboard for when they come here.  Not bad taste wise.  I am down to quarter of a teaspoon.  Really. I use my coloured measuring spoons so I can be accurate and not kid myself.

So next week I have to buy some more tea.   I have looked at a few articles and am thinking Clipper.  Anyone got a recommendation?  Like a plastic free one too!  But as always its price at the end of the day.

This article lists Twinings  too.

  1. I drink vanilla tea, which is slightly sweet, drunk without milk.

  2. I used to have sugar in both tea and coffee, until 6 or so years ago when I was diagnosed as diabetic T2. I didn't cut down gradually on sugar, I went cold turkey and cut it out straight away. It was pretty hard at first, I went overnight from liking strong Assam or builders type tea and strong coffee, to only liking both tea and coffee very weak. Now I drink lattes or Earl Grey tea. As Earl Grey is very weak indeed, I find having 2 bags in a mug with a little milk is best. I buy large boxes of whichever brand is cheapest at the time.

    1. Oh, meant to say also, I'm trying out different flavours of fruit teas....have to say most of them smell wonderful but taste awful...if they have any discernible taste at all. My friend gave me a cup of Twinings Blood Orange and Cranberry, that one was delicious.

    2. I like red fruits tea or a blackberry. Family like pepperment and ginger but I am not keen.

  3. I like Earl Grey tea but it has to be Higgins & Burke brand. I find different brands all taste different. I also really like ginger peach tea. I've never use milk or sugar in tea or coffee. I do love a cappuccino or a latte though and if it's made with milk I have to have sugar!!

  4. Ditch the teaspoon - it's too fiddly to wash up - and you'll soon be weaned.

  5. I only drink Tetley's de-caff tea now and love it. You wouldn't need sugar.
